Deserts have fascinated me ever since I stumbled into a California desert 30 years ago early on a perfect spring morning. The warm, dry air was filled with the smell of creosote bushes and flowers, pollinators were buzzing from plant to plant, and fabulous rock formations bounded the horizon. I was hooked. In the following years I got to know the other American deserts and began to lead friends on hiking/camping trips there. Over the years, I’ve come to know some of the natural and human history of the areas. My background is varied. I’ve taught, led walking trips in Vermont for Country Walkers, and have been a professional photographer for the last 30 years. Wander around this website to get the flavor of my trips.
